2024 Ballot Questions
by: The South Dakota Secretary of State
Many people have been asking me about the Constitutional Amendments, Initiated Measures, and Referred Law on the ballot this November—what they entail and their significance. These are excellent questions! I understand that we are all incredibly busy, working harder than ever to make ends meet, making it challenging to stay informed about the ever-evolving political landscape.
Fortunately, for us, the South Dakota Secretary of State, Monae Johnson has published a very good, comprehensive Ballot Question Pamphlet giving a non-partisan review of the measures. The pamphlet explains the ballot issues in detail and provides the Attorney General's explanation as well as the pros and cons to each. Please feel free to print out and study the measures in more detail at your convenience.
Please note that Constitutional Amendments, and Initiated and referred Measures approved by the majority vote will become effective on the first day of July after the completion of the official canvass by the State Canvassing Board (SDCL 2-1-12).
